[EO] Bonvole, retpoŝtu min ĉe: marbuljon ĉe tuta punko io.

Kiam ni skribas »doni ion«, vere signifas ni »doniĝigi ion«. »Doni« sole signifas nur »esti dono«. Samkiele, kiam ni skribas »la hundo ruĝas«, nur signifas ni »la hundo estas ruĝa«, ĉar ruĝas signifas nur »esti ruĝo«.

[EN] You're welcome to Email me at: marbuljon at tuta dot io.

In English, "I'm drowning (I'm about to die!)" and "I'm drowning you (I'm causing your death!)" mean completely different things despite that we use the same form of the verb. When we say "I'm drowning you; I'm reading a book", we really mean "I'm causing you to become a drowned person; I'm causing a book to become read by me".

[EO] Kial skribeblas kaj direblas ni »doni ion« tiel? Ĉar Zamenhofo diris ke »pravas, korektas, se aliaj homoj kompreneblas cin«. Se la ĉirkaŭparolo kaj ĉirkaŭskribo klarigas la signifon, ne uziĝendas -ig-, -iĝ- sed la n-formo plejofte ankoraŭ uziĝas.

[EN] Why, then, do we only say simple forms like "drown, read" in most cases? Because it's obvious through context and sentence structure, and because in the past we did have different forms of words depending on if something was getting something inflicted upon it (I drown you; thee I drown) or if something was doing the inflicting (you drown me; me thou drown). Think about how we can say both "He says" and "says he" — we can only do that because in the past we had these different forms for all nouns and adjectives.

Nowadays we only have these forms left in the differences between he/him, I/me, here/hither, there/thither, where/whither, towards/to, on/upon and so on, to varying degrees. ("to" means that the goal was reached: I gave it to him and he received it; I walked right up into the store; "towards" doesn't necessarily mean that way: I tried to offer it to him but he didn't take it; I walked towards the store but didn't necessarily make it there or go inside)

In Indonesian/Malay, the basic verb means simply "is". It would be like saying "I am a drown; I am a book". In order to clarify that there is some kind of action going on — that something becomes done, or that something is inflicted upon something else — prefixes are necessary.
